Pachypodium Mikea

 PACHYPODIUM MIKEA

This plant is the native of the southern part of Madagaskar. The island of Madagascar is a nature lover paradise with so many unique flora and fauna. They are not seen in many parts of the world. Due to human interference we a losing our unique diversity of the island. The Pachypodium Mikea is a type of plant that is losing its environment and has moved to the endangered list.
When I got my plant it was a short one but a pronounced caudex present in the stem. It can grow in the natural environment to 6 m and a thick stem of 30 cm. They grow in a dry part of Madagascar, so I decided to plant them into a potting medium that contains very little organic material. Its mainly made of coarse sand, perlite, and pumice stone. a very small quantity of vermicompost and bone meal was added.
Over the next 1 month, I watered it once in the week kept it under full sun, the leaves started coming out from the apex. The leaves are long, green with the central vein. I love my specimen. I expect that over the years it will develop a more thick caudex.
